The hare nodded confidently, ready to prove his intelligence. The
rooster asked, “What can run, but never walks; has a mouth, but never
talks?”
The hare contemplated, his ears shuddering (v) ______ concern.
“Hmm, a river?” he guessed. The rooster laughed heartily. “Correct!
A river runs (vi) ______ the valley!”
Feeling competitive, the hare quickly thought of his own challenge.
“Now it’s my turn! What has four legs (vii) ______ the morning,
two legs (viii) ______ the afternoon, and three legs (ix) ______ the
evening?”
The rooster scratched his head, confused. After some time, he finally
guessed, “A chair?”
The hare chuckled. “No! It’s a human! They crawl as a baby (x) ______
the morning of life, walk as an adult (xi) ______ the afternoon, and
use a staff as an elder (xii) ______ the evening.”
The rooster felt a bit embarrassed, but he loved a good challenge. He
suggested, “Why don’t we take a break (xiii) ______ the stream?”
They spent the afternoon laughing and talking, sharing stories about
their adventures. As the sun began to set, the hare said, “Today was
fun! Let’s make this a regular thing.”
The rooster nodded in agreement, “Yes! Every week, we shall meet
(xiv) ______ this spot and test each other’s wits!”
From that day onward, the hare and the rooster enjoyed many delightful
afternoons (xv) ______ the meadow.
