Fixing a ribbon on overlap the edges
(i) Mark the position of the ribbon
(ii) Prepare the ends as in number (ii)
and (iii).
(iii) Fix the ribbon to the wrong side of
the overlapping.
(iv) Attach the ribbon with the raw
edge downwards in the required
position on the under wrap. Tack it
in position.
(v) Backstitch the ribbon all around
the square close to the edge. Note:
One strap/ribbon is fixed to overlap
and the other one to under wrap.
(vi) Make a narrow hem on the wrong
side of the ends.
(vii) Hem the turning down and over sew
it to the ends.
Velcro
Velcro is a kind of fastening with two
layers of a nylon ‘touch and close’ as
shown in Figure 4.13 (a). The hook nylon
(firm or rough layer) should be attached
to the upper wrap while the looped
nylon (furry or soft layer) should be
attached to the under wrap for fastening
the opening as shown in Figure 4.13 (b).

Velcro is worked when the two layers
are pressed together and stick. Velcro
fastenings are available in different
sizes and colours and can be cut and
purchased in small length depending on
the customer’s requirement.
Velcro fastenings are ideal for garment
to be unfastened quickly and easily. It is
used in closing openings where there is
no pressure in the garments, for instance
cuffs, plackets, pockets, for closing
covers, cushions, shoes and bags.
Velcro is also used for attaching badges
to parts of the garment to suit different
occasion such as on sport wears,
or identity for marketing purposes.

(i) Cut the Velcro to the size required for
the work. Shape the corner to enhance
the appearance.
