3.6 Kingdom Plantae
Teaching steps
1. Guide students to search for information from library and

internet sources about kingdom Plantae.
2. Guide students to discuss in groups general characteristics
and distinctive features of division Bryophyta, Filicinophyta,
Coniferophyta, and Angiospermophyta. Give them time to
present their work in the classroom.
3. Guide students to watch simulations/videos/images showing
life cycle of Funaria Sp., Dryopteris Sp., and Pinus. Ask them
to describe what they have observed.
4. Ask students to perform Activities 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8. Ask them
to prepare a summary of what they have obsrved.
5. Assign students to do Exercises 3.11, 3.12, 3.13, and 3.14 from
Student’s Book. Mark the exercise and provide feedback.
6. Search from the internet or any other sources distinctive
features of class Monocotyledoneae and class Dicotyledoneae.
7. Use Activity 3.9 to guide students to observe the morphology
of monocot and dicot plants and the cross section of their stems.
Ask them to describe what they have observed.
Safety precautions
(a) Be careful when using surgical or razor blades.
(b) Safety precautions should be observed when collecting
plants, as some are toxin while others have thorns.
(c) Flower pollens may contain allergens and the elephant grass
hairs can cause skin itching.
(d) Be aware of some dangerous animals such as piercing insects
and snakes when collecting monocot and dicot plants.
8. Guide students in groups to discuss floral diagram and floral
formula. Give them time to present their work.
