3.7 Kingdom Animalia
Teaching steps
1. Guide students to use internet sources and the library to
search for information on kingdom Animalia particularly the
five selected phyla, namely phylum Platyhelminthes, phylum
Nematoda (Aschelminthes), phylum Annelida, phylum
Arthropoda, and phylum Chordata.
2. Guide students to discuss in groups: (a) the structure of Taenia
solium, liver fluke, Ascaris lumbricoides, and earthworm (b)
their adaptations to their mode of life, and (c) their economic
importance. Give them time to present their work. Make
corrections where necessary.
3. Guide students to do Activity 3.11 to examine the external
features of specimens provided. Ask them to describe what
they have observed.
4. Guide students to discuss in groups the distinctive features of
Arthropods and classification of Arthropods. Check whether
students participate actively in group discussion.
5. Guide students to do Activity 3.12, then ask them to answer the
questions.
6. Guide students to use internet sources or library to search video
or images showing body systems of a cockroach (digestive,
reproductive, and excretory systems). Ask them to describe
digestive and reproductive system.
7. Guide students to search from internet the videos or simulations
of dissection of a cockroach. Ask them to describe what they
have observed.
