Safety precautions
(a) Care should be taken when working with live specimens
such as frogs or toads, chemicals like chloroform, apparati
and equipment including the dissection kit tools.
(b) The working area, equipment and instruments used must
be thoroughly cleaned after use using appropriate methods.
Good hygiene practices should be observed at all times;
keep hands away from the mouth, nose, eyes and face
during and after dissection; and wash hands thoroughly
using an antiseptic or soap immediately after conducting a
dissection practical session.
(c) All other laboratory safety rules and regulations should be
adhered to under the supervision of a teacher or laboratory
technician whenever working in the laboratory.
15. Guide students to do Activities 3.15 and 3.16 from the Student’s
Book. Check whether students display correctly the visceral,
digestive system and urinogenital system.
16. Guide students to watch videos or simulations on dissection of
a rat/mouse to display the digestive and urinogenital systems.
Ask them to describe what they have observed.
17. Use the general procedure for dissection of a mouse or rat, to
demonstrate to students how to dissect a mouse/rat.
