Activity 6.3 Participating in spontaneous and non-spontaneous
conversations with people using different dialects
Use the activities in the Student’s Book to guide the students through:

(a) Reading the dialogue. Then, use the ‘Did you know?’ section
and other resources to teach students about the value of
embracing dialect diversity.
(b) Role-playing a spontaneous conversation using standard
English dialects by incorporating relevant cultural
pronunciations. Provide them with various scenarios where
they can practice the conversation spontaneously.
(c) Engaging in interactive exercises to simulate spontaneous and
non-spontaneous conversations using language learning Apps
that offer dialect-specific lessons and conversation practices.
Provide assistance where the need arises.
(d) Reading the given texts and writing the meanings of the
underlined phrases as they rewrite the text in standard English.

137 school children rescued by the military from
the clutches of bandits, with one teacher tragically
losing his/her life – the Kaduna government
announced
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has stated that
contrary to reports, it was 137 school children and not
287 students, who were abducted by bandits on 7th
March 2024 from Kuriga, Chikun Local Government
Area of the state. The governor made this clarification
during a televised Sunday Politics Show. He emphasised
that all the schoolchildren abducted by the bandits were
