3.1 The concept of energy balance

          Teaching and learning steps
             1.  Use enquiry method to enable students to brainstorm on the

                 concept of energy balance.
             2.  Use gallery walk or any other methodology to guide students
                 to explore factors for achieving energy balance.
             3.  In manageable groups, guide students to view videos or
                 images showing energy balance. Task students to differentiate
                 between positive and negative energy balance. Make
                 clarification where necessary.

             4.  Use illustrations from students book to make clarification
                 on energy balance.
             5.  Guide students to search information from the library, the
                 internet or any other sources on the importance of energy
                 balance. Task them to present their work in class.
             6.  Task students to perform activity 3.1. mark their work and
                 provide feedback.


          3.2 Components of energy expenditure

          Teaching and learning steps

             1.  Guide students to search information from the library, the
                 internet, or any other sources of information on the types
                 of energy expenditure which are; Thermic effect of food,
                 Physical activity and Basal metabolic rate. Task students
                 to prepare a report and present it in class.  Let students
                 share their findings for common understanding. Clear any
                 misconception
