          Baada ya kugundua nina sifa zote zilizoorodheshwa kwenye tangazo, niliamua kutuma
          barua ya maombi kwa kuambatanisha na wasifu wangu, vyeti vya taaluma na cheti cha
          kuzaliwa. Kila siku nilikuwa ninapitia tovuti ya shule ili kujua kama kuna taarifa mpya.
          Baada ya wiki mbili kupita, niliona jina langu miongoni mwa majina 20 ya waombaji
          walioitwa kwenye usaili kwa ajili ya somo la Kiingereza. Nilianza kujiandaa huku
          nikiwa na hofu sana kwani sikuwahi kuhudhuria usaili hapo kabla.

          Baada ya kuona nina hofu sana, mama aliniambia, “Jiamini mwanangu. Utafanya vizuri
          tu maana uwezo wako ni mkubwa. Endelea kufanya maandalizi.” Hofu ikapungua kwa
          sababu kauli ya mama ilinipa motisha.  Siku ya usaili ilipofika, niliamka alfajiri sana
          na kujiandaa. Kabla sijaondoka nyumbani, mama alinitakia kila la kheri huku akisali
          kwa ajili yangu. Tulipokuwa eneo la usaili, tuliitwa mmoja baada ya mwingine kwenda
          kufanyiwa usaili. Zamu yangu ilipokaribia, nikaanza kutetemeka mwili mzima huku
          nikimuomba mwenyezi Mungu anipe ujasiri. Nashukuru Mungu alijibu maombi yangu
          kwani nilivyoitwa nikapata nguvu, ujasiri mkubwa na nilijiamini sana. Nilijibu maswali
          yote kwa ufasaha mkubwa. Baada ya mwezi mmoja, makamu mkuu wa shule alinipigia
          simu kunijulisha kuwa nilifaulu usaili hivyo nikaripoti kazini  ndani ya wiki mbili.
          Machozi ya furaha yalinidondoka maana ushindani ulikuwa mkubwa sana. Sitaweza
          kuisahau siku hiyo katika maisha yangu.

          (e) Compare your interpretation with those of your fellow students by considering the
              following: Knowledge of the language, concentration and memory, multi-tasking
              skills, accuracy (correctness),  clarity of  information  presentation,  consistency,
              grammar,  punctuation,  fluency  (whether  the  ideas flowed naturally and carried
              the sense and atmosphere of the original work), and whether they elicited the same
              emotional response in the listeners as the original.

          (f)  Imagine you are in a restaurant having breakfast. Suddenly, a foreigner enters and
              is seated next to you to have breakfast. Unfortunately, she struggles to place her
              order as she cannot communicate in Kiswahili. She speaks only English whereas
              the waitress can communicate in Kiswahili only. Given your excellent command of
              both languages, you decide to interpret the conversation between the parties in both
              directions. Role-play this scenario, with you being the interpreter. The following is
              the conversation.

          Foreigner:    Hello, how’re you this morning?
          Interpreter:

          Waitress:     Nzuri. Vipi, wewe mzima?

          Interpreter:
          Foreigner:    I’m fine too.
