              KNOW

All the italicesed words in Activity 4.2(c) are phrasal verbs. These are main or
lexical verbs followed by one or more particles, such as prepositions or adverbs,
forming a single semantic unit. Phrasal verbs are very common in spoken and

written English, especially in informal usage. They are, therefore, essential for
understanding and communicating effectively in everyday situations. Phrasal
verbs add a natural and conversational tone when used in speech and writing and
            help one sound more natural.
Phrasal verbs allow for greater versatility in expressions because they have
multiple meanings with fewer words whose interpretation is contextual. Many
phrasal verbs are idiomatic, meaning that it is impossible to infer their meanings
from individual words. Phrasal verbs are often used in informal contexts, like
casual emails, conversations and social media. Your English proficiency can gain
depth and authenticity if you use them correctly. They also frequently appear in
written texts, newspapers, magazines, and novels, as well as movies, TV shows
and songs. You need to learn and use them to upgrade your proficiency in English.
