          9.    Parallelism         repetition  of initial  consonant  sounds in  neighbouring
                                    words or syllables to create emphasis or musicality, e.g.,
                                    live life
          10.   Irony               the repetition of grammatical  structures, phrases, or

                                    clauses within a sentence or across multiple sentences to
                                    create rhythm, balance, or emphasis, such as “like father,
                                    like son.”
          11.   Hyperbole           Attributing  human qualities or characteristics  to non-
                                    human  entities or objects, often  to create  imagery  or
                                    evoke emotions


          (c) Use the knowledge gained in (a) and (b) to do the following:

                 1.  Play  back  a  recorded  audio  or video  conversation  several  times,  paying
                    attention to the speakers’ rhetorical and implied meanings.
                 2.  Present  the  rhetorical  and  implied  messages conveyed  to  the  class and
                    facilitate a discussion on how well they worked in the context.



             Activity 4.4    Responding to oral messages with self-confidence and autonomy

          (a) Play a Riddle Race by doing the following:

                 1.  In teams, read the riddles in the table below in the shortest time possible.
                 2.  Respond to the riddles by choosing the correct response for each riddle.
                 3.  The first team to solve all the riddles wins the race.
