Activity 4.3 Describing rhetorical and implied meanings derived from

                              conversations

          (a) Read the following speech.

          Dear friends,
        FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
I want to share with you something today. I want to share with you something that
affects the entire community as well as individuals. It’s a subject which is close to our
hearts, and it’s something we need to address with sincerity and determination. I’m
          referring to drug abuse.

The first image that comes to mind when we hear the expression “drug abuse” is of
someone who is addicted to illegal substances, like heroin or cocaine. However, drug
abuse isn’t just limited to the obvious and extreme cases; it can also include something
as seemingly harmless as overusing prescription medications.

Let’s pause to think about the ripple effect of drug abuse. Drug abuse has adverse
effects on the user as well as their families, their friends and their entire community.
It tears apart families, breaks down trust, and creates a cycle of suffering that can be
          difficult to break.
The problem with drug abuse isn’t just about the physical harm it causes but also the
emotional toll it takes on everyone involved. It is also about the broken dreams, the lost
opportunities, and the painful memories that linger long after the drugs are gone.

What then can we do to address it? We should unite to combat drug abuse rather than
just live life. To begin with, we must raise awareness about the risks associated with
drug abuse. We must empower each other to make the right choices and have open
and honest conversations about the real risks associated with drug abuse. Awareness
isn’t enough. We must also offer support to those who are battling with drug abuse. We
must reach out for a supporting hand and assure them that they are not alone. Working
together, we can overcome this challenge and build a healthier, happier community for
          everyone.

Thus, my dear friends, let us pledge to unite in our fight against drug abuse. Let us
help each other, encourage each other and collaborate to create a brighter future for the
          present and future generations.

          Thank you.
