Chapter
Five Complex and stylistic meanings
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
Introduction
Constructing complex and stylistic meanings from diverse and multiple texts involves
extracting, synthesising, and interpreting information from various sources. This
dynamic and iterative process fosters deep engagement with ideas, creativity, and a
rich understanding of meanings from different texts or documents. In this chapter,
you will learn to analyse and evaluate different texts to deconstruct and reconstruct
meanings. You will also learn to convey meanings using rhetorical devices and
explain the meanings of texts written in various registers. The competencies
developed will enable you to deconstruct and construct meanings from various texts,
spanning different genres, disciplines and settings, including literature, scholarly
articles, historical documents and multimedia sources.
Think about
1. the texts that you consider complex.
2. the challenges you encounter in understanding or interpreting some
texts.
3. the strategies that you use in analysing a text to uncover its deeper
meaning.
