(iv) Plagiarism: While using the language creatively, one should take
into account the issue of plagiarism. Plagiarism is a practice of taking
someone’s work or ideas and pretending to be the owner. As artists use
the language creatively, they should respect intellectual property rights.
One should also learn how to use materials which do not belong to them.

They should consult the owners of the artistic materials they want to
use and ask for their consent before using them. Failure to credit the
owners undermines the artists’ works and it violates ethical standards
                    and creative integrity.

               (v) Clarity: Creative language should strive for clarity to ensure that an
audience understands the message. Ambiguity and complications
may be stylistic choices in some contexts, but as a producer of artistic
works one should be mindful of the potential for misunderstanding or
misinterpretation, especially when dealing with complex or sensitive
                    topics.

(vi) Cultural awareness: Language is deeply intertwined with culture. As
producers of works of art, the artists should be sensitive of the culture
of the community for which the work is produced. Doing otherwise
may create a serious problem on the audience’s reception of the work.
Potentially the artist’s work could be denied. Collaborating with members
of the culture being represented can increase probability for acceptance.

(vii) Harm: Freedom of expression is a fundamental right of any artist.
While exercising this right, theatre artists should prevent their creative
expressions from causing unnecessary harm. Theatre artists should weigh
the potential benefits of their creative expression against any foreseeable
harm it may cause to the audience and do all they could to avoid harm
to the audience. Any expression showing the element of harm should be
avoided because it can provoke violence and discrimination.

                       Activity 6.8

Choose a theatre performance, a song or film that provokes a discussion with
regard to the language used. Analyse the dilemma it places pertaining to the
               moral values of the community.
