               Exercise 1.6

You have been attending a TfD process in your community and towards the
end, you are among the selected few to take part in monitoring and evaluation
team. After sharing the news with your family, one family member has
expressed interest in knowing what the team is tasked to do is all about.
               Explain by describing the terms:

                 (i) Monitoring
                 (ii) Evaluation

                Revision exercise 1

              1. Every movement in art emerged for a purpose whether as a reaction to
the present movement or as artists’ struggle to define particular state of
art at the time. Elaborate the emergence of naturalism movement with
consideration of its reaction to previous theatrical styles.

              2. In theatre, naturalism is considered to have been influenced by scientific
thoughts. How did naturalist playwrights and directors incorporate
                  scientific principles into their works?

              3. Compare and contrast naturalism with other theatrical movements of its
time, such as realism and symbolism. How did these movements differ
in their portrayal of reality and theatrical techniques?

              4. Analyse the portrayal of social issues in naturalistic plays. How did
naturalist playwrights address social injustices and inequalities of their
                  time?
