Theatre Arts for Advanced Secondary Schools

              5. People fond of naturalism see the slices of their daily lives on stage. How
does realism seek to depict everyday life on stage?

              6. When one of your group members emphasised content over set while
discussing realism, you were sure that some of your fellow members are

yet to see the importance of other elements emphasised in realism as a
theatre movement. Evaluate the significance of setting and stage design
in realistic theatre and how the realistic set contributes to the authenticity
                  and involvement of the audience

              7. To Nindi, a new theatre student in your combination, realism and
naturalism are one and the same. Explore the relationship between
realism and naturalism in theatre with emphasis on how these movements
overlap and differ from each other.

              8. Your teacher has described your weekly assignment to be on playwriting
with focus on symbolism. As a symbolist playwright, describe how you
will convey meaning through metaphor, imagery and symbolism.

              9. Your friend Panguka has seen a play with symbolism features for the first
time. Confused, Panguka turns to you for elaboration, specifically on how
set, lighting and costumes contribute to the symbolic and metaphorical
layers of meaning in symbolist plays. In five points, respond to your
                  friend.

              10. Expressionists exaggerate presentations of characters and issues they
project. Give a brief description on the portrayal of gender roles, sexuality
and power dynamics in expressionist plays.

              11. You have been assigned to prepare a naturalist-based performance. What
issues/features have to be sighted to clarify the type of such performance?

              12. When analysing the data obtained during TfD workshop held at Wao
secondary school, amateur facilitators failed to group the data for they
could not differentiate primary data from secondary data. Briefly describe
to the facilitators the two types of data.

              13. After data analysis, your friends have called you to complete TfD process
they started. Identify and provide a detailed description of immediate
steps that follow data analysis in completing the process.
