Public messages are typically communicated through various channels,
including meetings, television, radio, newspapers, social media, and other
platforms. Their purpose is to inform, educate, persuade, or engage the public
on important issues.
Activity 4 Communicating in public settings
(a) Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow.
Faiza speaks at the school assembly
Faiza took a deep breath as she stepped
onto the stage. The entire school sat
before her; all the eyes fixed on her.
She tapped the microphone three times
to see if it was working. While doing
that, she felt her heart pound in her
chest. She had never spoken in public
before, particularly at the school
assembly, and she really wanted to
make a good impression. First, she
cleared her throat and began.
“Hello, everybody. Today, I want to talk
about the importance of kindness among
ourselves in the school community.”
