               Activity      5       Appreciating people’s ideas in public communication



           (a) Act out the following dialogue and do the accompanying activities.
              [It is Tuesday morning, and Form Three students are having an English lesson
              with Ms Ikupa, their English teacher.]


           Ms Ikupa:       Good morning, class!

           Class:          [Enthusiastically] Good morning, madam.

           Ms Ikupa:       Great!  Today,  we’ll  discuss  different  ways  used  to  keep  our
                           environment clean.
                                Who would like to share any ideas about this?

           Kareem:         I think we should have more waste bins around the school so that
                           students don’t litter.

           Irene:          That’s a great idea, Kareem! If there are more waste bins, it’ll be
                           easier for everyone to properly dispose of their waste.

           Ms Ikupa:       That’s superb, Irene! I like how you appreciated Kareem’s idea
                           before adding your thoughts. Anyone else?
           Abdallah:       I agree with Kareem and Irene. Additionally, we could organise a
                           monthly cleaning competition. The class that keeps their area the
                           cleanest could be rewarded.
