               Chapter Complex and stylistic

                 Five meanings

         FOR ONLINE READING ONLY

In this chapter, you will expose students to a variety of materials
such as articles, stories, poems, and essays to familiarise
themselves with different writing styles, vocabularies, and sentence
structures. This will help them to recognise sophisticated linguistic
elements like metaphors, similes, idioms, and figurative language
that increase the complexity and substance of writing. By regularly
reading various texts and receiving instructions on how to analyse
and combine information, students will develop the ability to create
detailed and expressive meanings, allowing them to communicate
           with effectiveness and self-confidence.

Activity 5.1 Conveying meanings using complex
                         stylistic features

Use the activities in the Student’s Book to guide the students through:

             (a) Reading the dialogue. Then, ask them to do the following:
                (i) Compare and contrast the styles in the three dialogues.
(ii) Identify versions of the dialogues they find easy to read and
understand. They should give reasons for their answers.
(iii) Provide the meanings of the words/expressions in bold
in Dialogue A and construct one sentence for each word/
                   expression.
