                   Explanation: Irony involves using language to convey the
                   opposite of what is being stated. It is used to create humour
                   or empathy and draw attention to the contrast between
                   appearance and reality. In this example, it’s ironic that the

                   fire station burned down while the firefighters were away,
                   as they would normally be the ones responding to a fire.

               (d)  Studying  the  given  poem and instruct  them to do the
                    following activity:
                   1.  Reread  the  poem,  identify  and  discuss  the  figurative
                       language and imagery used and themes depicted in the
                       poem.
                   2.  Present their work explaining how they interpreted the
                       figurative language and imagery and how they contribute
                       to the overall meaning and mood of the poem.
                   3.  Participate in a whole class discussion on the different
                       interpretations  and understandings  presented  by
                       the groups, exploring the effectiveness of the use
                       of  figurative  language  in  conveying  the  themes  and
                       emotions conveyed in the poem.
                   4.  Use any reliable  source to search for the concept of
                       figurative language, imagery, and symbolism. Compile
                       and write a summary with examples of relevant details
                       of the concepts.
                (e) Reading  the  story,  Corruption woes and answering the
                   questions that follow.

               Answers to Activity 5.1(e)

              1.  The  phrase  compares  the  village  to  a  withered  flower  to
                 convey the idea that the village  has lost its beauty and
                 vitality due to corruption. It is a simile.
              2.  It is a metaphor. It metaphorically compares the limitations
                 imposed  on dreams  to  physical  chains,  emphasizing  the
                 idea that deceit hinders the realisation of aspirations.
