                 4.    Casual register: It is informal and relaxed, used in
                     everyday conversations among friends, family, or peers.
                     It includes contractions, slang, and colloquial expressions.
                     Some examples include text messages, social media posts,

                     informal emails to friends, and casual conversations at a
                     coffee shop.
                 5.  Intimate Register: It is the most informal and personal,
                     used in close relationships where there is a high level of
                     familiarity  and emotional  connection.  It often includes
                     inside jokes and affectionate  language.  Some examples
                     include love letters, conversations between romantic
                     partners, and close friendships where individuals use pet
                     names and personal anecdotes.
            (b)  Reading the given text and completing the activities that follow.
             Ask them to do the following:

                 (i)  Identify whether the text is formal, informal or technical
                     and support their answers with four pieces of evidence
                     from the text.
                (ii)  Explain the meaning of the given constructions as used in
                     the text.

               Answers to Activity 5.2(b)

            (i)   Moving quickly and closely towards the subject, focusing
                 specifically on the activity of riding his bicycle. It suggests
                 a sense of speed and directness in the action.
           (ii)   Spending leisure time in a relaxed manner with close
                 friends or companions. It implies socialising, engaging in
                 casual activities, and enjoying each other’s company.
          (iii)   Performing  risky actions  that  evoke  strong emotions,
                 particularly fear or excitement. It suggests that the stunts are
                 so intense that they cause one’s heart to stop momentarily
                 due to the adrenaline rush.
