1.8 Nutrient requirements for invalids and convalescents
Teaching steps
1. Use questions and answers technique for students to brainstorm

2. Facilitate students in their groups to use online or any other
sources of information to identify nutrients required by
invalids and convalescents.
3. Use jig saw or any other technique to guide students to
discuss suitable meals for invalids and convalescents.
4. Prepare an interactive discussion for students to discuss
nutrients required by invalids and convalescents. Ensure
active participation of all students. Provide a summary for
the discussion based on students’ opinions.
5. Facilitate students in planning meals for invalids and
convalescents. Assist them accordingly.
6. Assign students to perform Activity 1.7 and Exercise 1.7.
Mark students’ answers and give them feedback.
Note: Ensure that dietary guidelines and food composition tables
are used during planning of meals for groups of people with
special dietary needs.
Assign students to perform Revision exercise1 from the Student’s
Book. Mark students’ answers and provide feedback.
