Activity 7.6 Writing instruction manuals
Use the activities in the Student’s Book to guide the students through:
(a) Reflecting on the provided questions in the Student’s Book.

(b) Observing the format, style, and content of the provided
instruction manual. Instruct the students to write a short report
using the provided guidelines in the Student’s Book and present
it to the class for discussion and improvement.
(c) Using search engines or any other sources of information to
study different samples of instructional manuals focusing on
their differences in style, language used and content. Ask them
individually or in pairs to compile and write a report. Finally,
let the students present the report to the class and conduct a
plenary discussion to develop a common understanding.
(d) Writing a sample of an instructional manual on any of the home
electrical appliances. Ask them to present their instructional
manual to the class for discussion and write a final draft for
submission.
(e) Discussing and writing an instruction manual on how to fix a
leaky faucet in the school toilet. Then, instruct them to present
it in the classroom for discussion and improvement. Finally, ask
them to use the comments from their classmates and teacher to
write the final draft.
(f) Finding instruction manuals for some electronic devices used
at home (e.g. TV, radio, refrigerator). Then, ask the students
to note important observations in their notebooks. Finally,
instruct them to share their observations with others and their
teacher.
