              Chapter

               Eight Principles of interpreting

         FOR ONLINE READING ONLY

Interpreting is a critical thinking skill that entails orally transferring
information from one language to another. Understanding and
translating overt and covert meanings of concepts from one language
to another requires mastery of language skills compounded with
analysis and evaluation skills. In this chapter, students will learn
intralingual, interlingual and sign language interpreting. They
will also learn to analyse theories and principles of interpreting
and discuss the ethics of interpretation. The competencies
developed will enable them to interact and comprehend concepts
in diverse communities, navigate multicultural environments and
develop their interpreting skills. Additionally, they will improve
their capacity to promote mutual respect, understanding, and
cooperation within their language community, across linguistic
and cultural boundaries and the globalised world.
