The knowledge gained from this theory helps editors and proofreaders to do the
following.
1. Identify grammatical errors and inconsistencies in the texts to ensure the text’s
conformity with standard linguistic conventions.
2. Apply punctuation rules to clarify meaning, improve readability and maintain
coherence in the texts.
3. Detect spelling errors and typos to ensure the text’s consistency and accuracy;
4. Assess the appropriateness of language use in various contexts while
maintaining a consistent tone, style, and level of formality.
5. Acknowledge linguistic diversity while adhering to standard norms and
conventions.
