Activity 2�3 in the Student’s Book
Use a relevant method to guide the students through doing Activity
2.2 as presented in the Student’s Book.
(a) Ask students in pairs to create two exemplary paragraphs on
topics of their interest.
(b) Let the pairs exchange their work and read the other pair’s
work. Then, ask them to return the work.
(c) Guide the pairs through presenting the work to the class for
plenary discussion and clarification.
(d) Ask each student to keep the work in their portfolios.
Essay writing
Teaching procedures
1. Ask students in pairs to read the information about essay writing
presented in the Student’s Book.
2. Guide them through discussing parts of an essay as they are presented
in the Student’s Book.
3. Organise the students into groups and provide each group with
essay samples. Then, guide them through determining how the
essays are well developed (they should identify the three main
parts of an essay).
4. Allow students to ask any questions where necessary for further
clarification.

i. Describing the kinds of essay they wrote when they were
at ordinary level.
