Introduction
An illustration is a visual description of a text, concept, or process
intended for use in print and digital media. It can be used in effective
communication to convey and clarify complex ideas and enhance
understanding. In this chapter, you will guide the students to learn
how to identify, interpret and use illustrations such as graphs,
maps and diagrams effectively in their academic undertakings. The
competence developed will enable the students to make an effective
interpretation of illustrations used in academic documents and
make use of illustrations in their academic documents.

Identifying simple and complex illustrations
Teaching procedures
1. Guide students through brainstorming the concepts of illustrations,
simple and complex illustrations.
2. Encourage students to share their understanding and provide
examples.
3. Randomly, choose a few students and ask them to read aloud the
information about simple and complex illustrations as presented
in the Student’s Book.
